Agronomic performance of popcorn genotypes in Northern and Northwestern Rio de Janeiro State - doi: 10.4025/actasciagron.v35i1.15694 Agronomy

Three populations of popcorn from the Universidade Estadual do Norte Fluminense Darcy Ribeiro recurrent selection program (cycles C3, C4 and C5 from UNB2U), five simple hybrids provided by the Universidade Estadual de Maringá breeding program, five varieties (BRS Angela, UFVM-2 Barão de Viçosa, Viçosa, Beija-Flor and SAM) and three commercial hybrids (Zelia, Jade and IAC 112) were evaluated in five environments for their potential to be registered by the MAPA and recommended to producers in Northern and Northwestern Rio de Janeiro State. The experiment was arranged in a randomized block design, with three replications. The two main economic traits of the crops, grain yield (GY) and popping expansion (PE), were assessed. In the joint analysis of variance,...

Comparison of multiallelic distances for the quantification of genetic diversity in the papaya - doi: 10.4025/actasciagron.v33i1.11698 Agronomy

This study aimed to compare multiallelic distances to quantify genetic diversity in papaya. We evaluated forty-three individuals in the S2 generation, from the backcross between F1 (Cariflora x SS783) and Cariflora, and four accessions from the UENF/Caliman Germplasm Bank. Genetic distances used were Smouse and Peakall (1999), Kosman and Leonard (2005) and weighted index. Clustering among genotypes was performed using the hierarchical unweighted pair-group method with arithmetic mean analysis (UPGMA) and projection of the distance on the bidimensional plan. A high correlation between genetic distances was observed; however, through UPGMA group analysis, the distance determined by the weighted index provided the complete separation of 52BC1S2-08, 52BC1S2-29...

Influence of bio-regulators on the seed germination and seedling growth of onion cultivars - doi: 10.4025/actasciagron.v34i2.13401 Agronomy

Application of bio-regulators improves the productivity of cash crops. Current experiment evaluates the effects of different doses of a bio-regulator on the seed quality of three onion cultivars (‘Baia Periforme’, ‘Bola Precoce’ and ‘Híbrida Superex’). Six doses of bio-regulator at 0, 2.5, 5.0, 10.0, 20.0 and 30.0 mL kg-1 were applied and results were compared to those of three controls. The experimental design was entirely randomized under the factorial arrangement 3 x 6 + 3, with four replications. Data were subjected to analysis of variance (p < 0.05), and all seed treatments were compared with controls by Dunnett’s test. The analysis of regression described the effects of the increasing doses of bio-regulator on germination and vigor responses...

Predicting the oil contents in sunflower genotype seeds using near-infrared reflectance (NIR) spectroscopy Agronomy
Grunvald, Anna Karolina; Universidade Estadual de Maringá; Carvalho, Claudio Guilherme Portela de; Empresa Brasileira de Pesquisa Agropecuária; Leite, Rodrigo Santos; Empresa Brasileira de Pesquisa Agropecuária; Mandarino, José Marcos Gontijo; Empresa Brasileira de Pesquisa Agropecuária; Andrade, Carlos Alberto de Bastos; Universidade Estadual de Maringá; Scapim, Carlos Alberto; Universidade Estadual de Maringá.
The aim of this experiment was to calibrate the NIR spectroscopy equation to evaluate the oil content of sunflower seeds from different genotypes produced under different environmental conditions in Brazil. The spectra of 901 standard samples obtained from 88 hybrids and 116 lines, which were evaluated in 11 locations, were collected from intact seeds (achenes) and correlated with data generated by nuclear magnetic resonance analysis. The calibration was determined by linear regression using partial least squares to estimate the parameters. The goodness of fit was evaluated using the coefficient of determination (R2), standard error of calibration (SEC) and the standard error of performance (SEP). The wavelengths ranging from 1319 to 1760 nm were selected...

Updating the ranking of the coefficients of variation from maize experiments - doi: 10.4025/actasciagron.v34i1.13115 Agronomy
Fritsche-Neto, Roberto; Universidade Federal de Viçosa; Vieira, Rafael Augusto; Universidade Estadual de Maringá; Scapim, Carlos Alberto; Universidade Estadual de Maringá; Miranda, Glauco Vieira; Universidade Federal de Viçosa; Rezende, Luciano Moreira; Universidade Federal de Viçosa.
The objective of this study was to update the ranking of the coefficients of variation (CVs) from maize experiments and evaluate the accuracy of the data from the latest Brazilian publications. We rank-ordered the CVs for grain yield, plant and ear heights, number of ears per plant, and weight of commercial ears, except for the weight of 100 grains. The data were obtained from 143 scientific papers published from 2005 to 2010. The classification was based on the average (m) and standard deviation (SD) and the CVs were ranked as low, intermediate, high and very high. All of the random variables had the CVs normally distributed. For most of the traits, we observed a large difference between the ranks from Scapim and Pimentel Gomes. In summary, the...
